Frigidaire washing machine troubleshooting

Frigidaire washing machine troubleshooting. The Frigidaire washing machine, whether top-loading or front-load, is basically a big tub that repeatedly fills with water and then drains and spins to wring clothes dry.

And has a device for stirring the contents up, either an agitator in the middle of a top-load machine or a rolling drum in a front-loading machine.

The four cycles that every washer performs are fill, wash, drain and spin. Though these functions are pretty basic, there’s no shortage of things that can go wrong with them.

Don’t try doing something as silly as fixing it yourself if you’re not qualified; before assuming control over any problems with your washing machine, are very sure to first unplug it.

A washer must be empty before you can open the door to work on it.

Frigidaire washer won’t start

Test the buttons on the control panel to determine whether the user control or display board is defective. There is a possibility that you will need to replace the driver board if some buttons work but not others.

Additionally, if your washer isn’t responding when you have it on a specific cycle or displaying a certain option but this didn’t use to be an issue, you may need to replace the timer too.

It’s a common mistake to misdiagnose these parts before replacing them, first check all of the other commonly defective parts that can happen while using your appliances, like a faulty water valve or a broken inlet water hose.

To determine if any of those are bad (i.e., broken), consult your washer’s wiring diagram and use a multimeter to test them for continuity.

Frigidaire Washing Machine Isn’t Draining

frigidaire washing machine isn't draining

It is possible for small objects or articles of clothing to get caught in the drain pump.

Check the pump for obstructions after removing the drain pump to determine if anything is blocking it.

If the drain pump is clear of obstructions but is still noisy during the drain cycle, replace the drain pump.

Sometimes, socks and other small articles of clothing can get into the drain system and clog up its hoses or even its pump itself if it’s close enough to the outlet itself that things could easily fall in or be siphoned out.

Frigidaire Washing machine won’t spin

The lid switch assembly prevents the washer from spinning when the lid is open. If the lid switch assembly fails, the washer will not spin.

To determine if the lid switch assembly is defective, use a multimeter to test for continuity between the two prongs on the tip of the assembly.

If there is no continuity between these two points, there may be an electrical problem that could require further investigation by a qualified technician.

Inspecting both of the drive belts one that drives the drum and one that drives the agitator will help you determine whether they might appear worn from excessive use or if they might have broken somehow which might cause other parts of your washer to malfunction as well.

The washing machine won’t agitate

Changing its agitator repair kit may fix the problem if the agitator won’t agitate. Specifically, the kit contains drive blocks and transmission shafts, which are most prone to being damaged or broken.

If any of the parts are broken or malfunctioning for whatever reason then replacing the entire kit is a viable option.

The drive block connects the washer transmission to the agitator so it’s important for this part to be in perfect condition if you want your appliance moving properly.

If the drive block is broken or malfunctioning then you might not get maximum movement from either.

Inspect the drive block for signs of wear, breakage, or other damage doing so means your appliance should continue operating smoothly as original parts have been replaced if any were defective, to begin with.

The washer is making a lot of noise

If a washing machine is making loud noises, the first recommended step is to check the spin tub bearings. A defective bearing can make a loud clunking noise during each spin cycle and if it becomes damaged.

The washer could become very noisy. Outer drums often come with their own bearings, so if multiple components are being replaced at once be aware that some drum replacements require inner bearing replacements too.

It may also be more difficult to replace washer drum parts than a technician might anticipate due to tight spaces and/or putting pressure on other pieces of the washing machine.

For example, replacing an outer tub assembly or main NTW gear drive assembly can be costly and labor-intensive.

The door or lid doesn’t lock

the door or lid doesn't lock

The door lock secures the washer door shut during operation and prevents babies from being able to push it open.

Once the washer door is closed, the washer will begin operating. If the door lock is defective, the washing machine’s door will not latch properly.

The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically.

Inspect the door lock for signs of damage, like cracks or chips on its plastic surface or loose wires sticking out where they shouldn’t be.

If any of these signs are present then you’ll know that you need to have them replaced by a professional.

Let’s see if your washing machine’s door lock is experiencing failure electronically by testing each of its components individually with a multimeter if one of them doesn’t show continuity then we’ll know that it will need to be replaced as well.

Frigidaire Washer leaks water

When the washing machine’s tank doesn’t drain properly, it may indicate a faulty and damaged washer pump. If the pump doesn’t work, then a replacement for it will fix the problem.

The most common locations of leaks are at the connection between the washer and water supply hose as well as in the back of the washer by its wall mount.

Running your hand along the connections from either side of your washer should locate the bad areas to examine further and make any repairs necessary.

The washer stops mid-cycle

The washer door lock keeps the washer’s door from opening. If the door isn’t locked, the switches inside of it prevent it from functioning.

Inspect this to see if there is a problem, like if the magnet is worn out or loose. Test with a multimeter by placing one of its leads onto each of the switch contacts; if none of them have continuity, replace it.
