Ryobi Pressure Washer Troubleshooting. Power washers are used in many households by individuals to clean their porches and cars. There is a company out there that makes excellent gas and electric power washers that goes by the name of Ryobi.
Sometimes these machines can malfunction, but before rushing up to their customer care, you should check out some of these troubleshooting tips first.
Some of the most common issues with Ryobi’s power washer models are pressure issues, power issues, and water leakage problems.
Mainly these are caused by faulty switches, a faulty unloading valve, dirty air filters, or even clogged pressure nozzles.
Some of these problems can be fixed without much technical knowledge. Others are more complex and require some tools which would help you complete the job much better at your end.

The following is a guide to troubleshooting Ryobi pressure washer problems.
Ryobi Pressure Washer Is Unreliable
The fuel filter is clogged either because of old fuel or because it hasn’t been cleaned recently.
To make sure that the fuel filter stays clean, you should make a habit of regularly cleaning out your pressure washer’s tank and changing the fuel filter each season.
The spark arrestor is a small screen that prevents sparks produced by the engine from flying around.
If the spark arrestor gets clogged or broken, try cleaning it with a wire brush. In dire circumstances, you may also want to replace it altogether with a new one.
Ryobi Pressure Washer Will Not Start
The flywheel key in a pressure washer should not be sheared in half when it suddenly stops working and won’t turn on.
Although not a common occurrence, it can happen if you hit the pressure washer against an object too hard like concrete or asphalt.
Remove the flywheel from the pressure washer’s engine and inspect its key by holding it up to the light and tilting it this way and that.
If there are two distinct halves, chances are it is broken.
An ignition coil ignites the spark plug of your engine while it’s running. When the ignition coil malfunctions, your engine may fail to start.
To determine whether the spark plug needs to be replaced, you first need to test it. Once you’ve confirmed that the spark plug is functioning correctly, you can use an ignition coil tester to double-check if your suspicions are correct and then replace it if so.
Ryobi Pressure Washer Leaks Water
The thermal release valve is most likely to blame for the leak. The thermal release valve allows hot water to exit the pressure washer if the temperature of the water becomes dangerously hot.
If you run your pressure washer without letting it spray hot water out, then the water in your pump can heat up so many other harmful chemicals can be created.
When this occurs, there is usually a “thermal release” that opens and lets these dangerous chemicals escape otherwise they can damage nearby fish or pollute your ground nearby.
The pump needs to be either rebuilt or replaced. If you use your pressure washer frequently, you should consider replacing the pump every few years to avoid having to deal with expensive repairs.
However, if you infrequently use your pressure washer and it’s relatively new, consider repairing or replacing specific parts of the pump instead of the entire unit.
Ryobi Pressure Washer Stalls After Starting
The air filter might be clogged. If the air filter is clogged, the engine will get too much fuel and not enough air. As a result, your washer may stall out. Check to see if the air filter has collected dust; if it has, you should buy a new one at once.
The carburetor is most likely clogged. A clogged carburetor is caused by leaving fuel in the pressure washer for a long period of time.
Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance.
This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause it to run improperly thus causing stalling. If the carburetor is clogged try cleaning it with carburetor cleaner.
If cleaning the carburetor isn’t effective, rebuild or replace the entire carburetor as this method showed no signs of working.
