Maytag washer troubleshooting. As a top brand, Maytag is highly regarded and appreciated not only because of its service record but for the quality construction of its products as well.
Because every brand makes errors at some point or another, however, it can sometimes be necessary to troubleshoot whatever issue your Maytag appliance might have.
Maytag washer troubleshooting
Your Maytag washing machine has stopped functioning due to Mechanical causes. Use our troubleshooting guide to resolve the issue by matching your problem to one of the common issues we’ve included in our guide.
By doing so, you’ll be on your way to a quality repair and not worrying about breaking something else or causing further problems, such as burning out equipment or electric wires.
Even though you’ll be performing this task for the first time, you’ll feel more confident in your repairs because we’ve simplified each step with detailed instructions and pictures geared towards allowing anyone with reasonable DIY skills the ability to not only fix their own appliances but also help friends and family when they need it most.
The following are common issues that may require fixing:
Make sure the Time is Accurate
The first thing to check before calling the service center is the timer on your washer. If this is not working, then it can affect how your washer works throughout its cycle.
You can check it by: First, you would need to consult your washer’s wiring diagram to locate the terminals that control your timer motor.
You would want to unplug the power chord for your machine at the wall outlet. Then move on to opening the washer doors so you can access its control panels, where you will plug in/connect your washer’s timers wiring harness.
When a motor winding is defective, the multimeter will display “O.L.,” indicating that it needs to be replaced.
Watch the user control and Display the board
When a control and display board in a washer goes defective, one sign may be when multiple buttons no longer work. Anytime something is going wrong with the appliance, one should check whether or not it has the power to rule out any power failures.
If you find that it does have power but all buttons are still failing to respond the issue is likely with the defective control and display board! If this is the case, then it needs to be replaced to restore your appliance’s former functionality.
Verify the power is working
When your washer won’t work, it might be as simple as your outlet not working. Shut off the power to both outlets and leave them out of the circuit for several minutes so that they don’t cause a fire.
Then put the plug back into one of them, turn the power on again, and try the other appliance. If this other appliance works, then you know that both outlets are good and you should check for another issue like a blown fuse.
If it doesn’t work, then you have a problem with your power source. You should then call an electrician because there can be issues with fuses or wiring that need immediate attention before they become worse.
Faulty Thermal fuse
If your Maytag washer happens to be overheating, this is probably causing the washer’s thermal fuse to trip. If this is the case, the cleaning cycle will stop, and you’ll need to test out or replace the washer’s thermal fuse.
With a multimeter, you can easily check for continuity if it is available by placing one of its connectors on either side of the fuse and then reading its digital display.
For any 0Ω reading, the fuse doesn’t appear to be faulty and still is able to provide continuity in order for electricity to pass through it.
If you do find that the fuse needs replacing, remember to look further into what might have caused your washer’s thermal fuse to fail so as not to face similar issues again.
The Maytag washer won’t spin
The lid switch assembly prevents the washer from spinning when the lid is open. If the lid switch assembly fails, the washer will not spin and need repair.
To determine if the lid sting has lost its sting (nice one!) use a multimeter to test for continuity by connecting your meter’s red lead to one terminal on the lid shaft and black lead to another terminal on the shaft.
Suppose you don’t feel a connection and move around until you get a reading. If there is no continuity, replace the lid ring with a new one, and your load of laundry will be happy that it can spin again.
The spin cycle makes a loud noise
The rear drum has special packaging filled with air that keeps the inner tub spinning smoothly. If the outer drum is cracked or leaking, or if your washer suddenly starts making strange noises, it may be due to a defective snap-on air trap.
Whenever you hear strange sounds coming from your washing machine, you should unscrew the defective plumbing packed full of ruined animal fur and reattach it correctly to eliminate any future problems with overly dry machines.
When checking for leaky machinery, don’t forget to include the rubber gasket located outside of the tub in your search because it can be very difficult to find all parts of an exploded soybean, especially since they sometimes explode without warning during operation.
When one removes their old audio equipment gearset, they need to drill out the old rusted bolts using their conch shell chisel before replacing them with new ones.
Leakage Problem
If the drain pump is cracked or damaged or if the bearings are worn out, it may leak water and will need to be replaced.
Sometimes, if the tub seal is torn, water may leak through the seal and into the tub bearings, causing them to fail. For this reason, if you notice that both your drain pump and your tub seal require replacement, we would recommend replacing both parts for a complete fix.
Bear in mind that this will most likely be a complicated repair and will most likely require someone who has experience working with these types of appliances – so don’t attempt this at home unless you know what you’re doing!
Defective door lock
The door lock on a washing machine ensures that the door stays shut while the washing machine is in operation. If you discover that your washer’s door is not shutting, it means that your washer won’t work at all, and there could be a number of possible reasons behind its current malfunction.
Faulty door locks can be caused by mechanical or electronic problems. In order to check if this is indeed the cause of your problem, first.
See if there is any obvious damage to the door lock. In that case, it will need to be replaced.
