LG Refrigerator Leaking Water

LG Refrigerator Leaking Water. When there is ice accumulated in the defrost drain, liquid water cannot go down the drain, it overflows into the bottom of the appliance.

Check to see if water goes through normally by removing any debris from the drain trough.

If there is something interrupting the flow of water, remove it and try running a few cycles. If this doesn’t work, clean or replace the filter head to see if that’s affecting the flow of water.

Always double-check the defrost drain by emptying out any loose debris that may have accumulated in it. If the drain is frozen or clogged, there could be leaking problems with your refrigerator which might destroy the wooden flooring underneath.

Here are some issues that LG refrigerators have when they start leaking water.

Inlet Valve For Water

Water inlet valves are essential to the functioning of a refrigerator. If a faulty or cracked water supply line was connected to the valve, water will begin leaking everywhere as a result.
The best way to prevent this leaky mess is to ensure that when replacing any damaged part on your refrigerator, make sure the replacement part is designed properly for use with the existing appliance and is also compatible with said existing part.

Defrost Drain Clogged Or Frozen

If your defrost drain is frozen it can overflow the drain trough and drip down the spaces in the freezer compartment to create a puddle underneath. Eventually, this puddle of water can leak onto the floor.

Therefore, if your defrost drain is frozen, thaw it out immediately and also make sure to check for debris that could have been causing a blockage.

Problems With Water Filters Head

The water filter head may be defective and water might not flow smoothly through it.

Inspect the water filter housing for stains. If there are stains on the housing, replace it with a brand new one.

When inspecting the water filter itself, make sure to check if any cracks have developed in the inner portion of the mouth of the filter or if it has been punctured in any area.

Housing For Water Filters Issue

Check to ensure that the water filter housing is not cracked. If there is a crack in the water filter housing, replace it as soon as possible.

Fault In Drain Pan

Self-defrosting refrigerators are equipped with a drain pan and condenser coils. The condenser fan blows warm air from the condenser across the top of the drain pan to evaporate the water.

You might have noticed it taking longer to defrost for the first time or the build-up of ice in your fridge freezer compartment over time.

That could be an indicator that when you replace your coil gasket, you will have to refill it with water before you can use it or have a professional repair person do so for you if you are not comfortable doing this at home.

Things like leaks and poorly designed gaskets cause severe breakdowns in how well they’re able to cool food and do their job as, over time, they become less and less effective.

Assembly For Water Tanks

Inspect and replace any water tank assembly which is damaged. Note that a damaged tank will be noticeably weaker, so you can easily bend the plastic of a damaged tank.

The tank may be beyond repair and should be replaced. Do not attempt to repair a leaky water tank once it’s broken; it won’t hold glue properly for long enough to create permanent fixing.
