Kenmore ice maker leaking water into bin

Kenmore ice maker leaking water into bin. Historically, ice makers built into refrigerators lasted the average life of the refrigerator about ten to fifteen years.

But now, manufacturers are adding more features to the modern-day ice makers that decrease their lifespan to about five years.

Since many of these machines require electricity or saltwater and may also feature compressors that use oil as a lubricant there are a few mechanical and electrical problems that may come up during this time.

However, many of these issues can be easy to fix yourself if you’re inclined towards DIY projects around the house.

Kenmore ice maker leaking water into bin? A leaky water line could be because someone didn’t secure the ice maker to the water line or the line itself has a crack or break.

Or is it because something is clogging up your drain and therefore you’re experiencing some leaks inside your Kenmore freezer?

Water Inlet Valve Problems

The shut-off valve in the ice machine requires a minimum of 20 pounds of pressure to close fully.

If the water pressure is lower than 20 pounds, the valve may not fully latch when the power is turned off. As a result, water leaks through the valve and causes it to overflow into the ice maker.

If you find that your water pressure is lower than that 20-pound requirement, check if another inlet valve might be causing interference on your supply line by shutting off first.

That other inlet’s job would be to increase the pressure, so feel around for anything that might be blocking your correct waterline.

If you confirm that your water supply pressure is at least at or above 20 pounds, and it’s too high for another reason like building restrictions, perhaps then it may be time to replace your shut-off valve located on the boiler side hot or cold side and depending on which direction it opens/closes when you look at it from underneath – left or right!

Door Switch Issuesdoor switch issues

You can check the door switch by pushing it after opening the door. If the light comes on, this means that the switch is working.

If the light continues to stay on even after closing and reopening the door, there’s a problem with your switch and you should replace it.

Problem with Ice Maker Assembly

One component of the ice maker assembly is defective and, as a result, you might need to order an entirely new ice maker assembly. Simply inform us of the issue so we can help you order the correct part for your model!

Get Low Water Pressure from  House Supply

The water valve supplies water to the refrigerator ice and water dispenser. A lack of pressure will prevent it from working properly, so check your home’s water supply for leaks and low pressure.

If this is the case, you may need to install a booster pump or hire a professional to fix the issue instead of having to replace the ice maker on your own which can be rather expensive!

Faulty Evaporator Coils

When the evaporator coils of your refrigerator are frosted, it means there is a defect in the defrost system.

There could be up to four possible causes for this: the defrost thermostat, control board, heater, or cold temp sensor.
