Water Inlet Valve Problem
The water supply valve is an electrically-controlled valve that opens to supply water to the dispenser and ice maker.
If the water supply valve is defective, or if it has insufficient pressure, it won’t allow water to flow through. As a result, the ice maker won’t make ice.
The inlet valve requires at least 20 pounds per square inch (PSI) of pressure to function properly. Make sure that the water pressure coming into the machine is at least 20 PSI.
If the water pressure is sufficient, use a multimeter to check for power going into the inlet valve. If it’s getting power but still won’t let any water flow out of it, then replace it with a new one!
Ice Maker Paused
The easiest thing to deal with is a power disconnection or loose wire. If you have an ice maker connected to your home’s AC line as a separate circuit from the rest of your home, there may have been an improper connection where the wires are touching, but no longer live when the switch is flipped on.
To get around this problem, make sure to turn off power for this device if it is a separate circuit, then search for any wires that seem to be disconnected or frayed in any way and reconnect them to their matching partners.
Defective Ice Maker Assembly
If your ice maker is no longer dispensing ice, you may need to replace the assembly. First check if anything is blocking the water fill line or impeding the flow of water through it.
If it’s clear and there are no leaks, move on to checking the fan for any obstructions and test it with a multimeter before moving onto next potential blockages such as the door gasket or even obstructions in the freezer – all which have been known to inhibit ice scooping in the past.
Another issue could be the storage compartment’s freezer thermostat. In case your freezer is too cold or too warm, the ice maker will not be able to do its job properly. The thermostat is usually located inside the refrigerator compartment.
There may be one temperature dial for the entire fridge-freezer unit. Sometimes there are two separate dials, which allow you to decide how warm or cold your freezer and fridge will be separately.
Find your refrigerator/storage compartment’s thermostat and see if it also applies to the compartment below it with the freezer in it. If your ice cubes are soft, make sure you make the freezer colder.. If they’re frosty or won’t fall off of a scoop, set it just a little bit warmer.
Door Switch’s Fault
The door switch turns off the ice and water dispenser when the refrigerator door is opened. If this component has failed, it will not signal to the dispenser to turn on.
To test if it is defective, use a multimeter to check its continuity while it is in operation (ice or water dispenser). If you are unable to activate the switch by hand, or if it does not have continuity, replace this component.
Problem with Water Filter
When the ice maker and water dispenser are not working properly, it could be because you haven’t replaced your water filter.
A clogged system may affect any of your appliances that require a flow of water to make them operational so replacing the water filter as recommended by the manufacturer can ensure efficient working with these appliances.
Improper Temprature setting
If the freezer is above 10 degrees Fahrenheit (-12C), the fridge may not not operate properly. The optimal temperature for a freezer is between 0 and 5 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 to -15C) so make sure that you set your freezer accordingly.
If it’s too high, clear out the condenser coils and have your condenser fan checked to ensure that it’s working properly. Also, check to see if frost has built upon the evaporator coils — if they’re frosted over, this shows that there was a problem with the defrosting system.
