How To Remove Over The Range Microwave. Over-the-range microwaves take up a lot of space on top of your stove because they hang above the counter.
These bulky appliances also don’t fit under the cabinets below, so if your microwave gives out or needs to be replaced, you can easily install a new one in several minutes and have more space on your countertop by removing it yourself with the help of a few screws.
All you have to do is lift out your old appliance and get ready to welcome your new home appliance into the family.
How To Remove Over The Range Microwave
How to remove an over-the-range microwave is discussed here.
Step 1
If you have a microwave that stands above your gas range or electric stove, be sure it’s turned off before you work on your big appliances. Disconnect the range from the power supply if it’s an electric range.
Turn off the gas and disconnect the hose by turning off the valve there, as well as any electrical connections, on gas stoves. If you’re using an extended electric range, remember to unplug the wall outlet as well.
Step 2
On top of your microwave, you will find two or three screws that are holding the upper part together with the under cabinet component.
Remove these screws and place them somewhere safe so you don’t misplace any. Older microwaves might not have screws on top, which is what makes this step a bit more dangerous because if you’re not careful, you could hurt yourself.
If it is one of these older microwaves, use a screwdriver or pliers to turn the bottom cap upside down, then pry off the bottom piece while taking care to hold the base.
Step 3
Take the screws out of the back panel, take the cord and outlet off, then tilt the microwave away from you and slide it off of the bracket.
Make sure your partner helps you if you don’t have any. Hold onto the microwave with both hands to avoid dropping it as well as damaging your appliance.
Remove the microwave while keeping it safe and put it in a secure location on your countertop out of your way to protect both your microwave and yourself from accidentally injuring yourself or others while moving or using this appliance.
Step 4
The mounting bracket is attached to the wall with three or four screws. Remove these so you can lift the bracket off and take it down from where the microwave has been placed on top of it.
If you’re repairing your microwave, however, leave this bracket where it is since a new microwave shouldn’t be placed on top of it.
FAQs

What is the best way to move an oven without a dolly?
If you do not have access to a dolly, slide the oven forward a few inches forward by grasping the back edge; then tilt it back slightly and put a piece of upside-down carpet beneath the front legs.
When done correctly, this allows you to move the oven more easily and protect the flooring.
