Lockboxes can be very helpful in securing valuables as well as important papers, but what happens if you lose your keys inside the box? How do you open that lockbox without a key?

Luckily, there are a number of ways to get into that lockbox without losing your mind or damaging anything.

Picking Locks

Locking a box without a key can be rather difficult. You have to pull the small pin back at the side of the lock three times, using only one finger. Then you need to pull the bigger pin back, but only twice with 2 fingers.

After this, you will use 2 flatheads and a thin piece of metal (about 30 cm) and angle it downwards so that it goes right through the center hole in both pins.

Drilling Method

To lock pick a lockbox, spray the keyhole with lubricant so the drills you insert will not get stuck. Insert the drill bit into the keyhole and then put the lubricant on.

Drill through the keyhole until it reaches the lock’s cylinder. This method works for most lockboxes with a keyed cylinder.

You should use a Flathead Screwdriver

Opening a lockbox with a screwdriver isn’t hard if you have the right tools. The first thing that you should do is insert the tip of a flathead screwdriver into the keyhole and turn it anti-clockwise until it releases the mechanism.

If it’s stubborn, you can try using pliers to pull back on the lock. Or alternatively, use an electric drill bit to release it from its casing without damaging it or your property – this will ensure effective long-term usage.

Shimming is Applicable to Lockboxes

Shimming is a general lock-picking term that applies to wafer and tubular locks. Inserting small metal pieces in between the door and the frame is vital when applying shim to lockboxes.

Apply a Bypass Method

This method is not very sophisticated and involves inserting a specially designed tool into the keyway and turning it until the lock pops open.

Some hacksaw-like tools have a sharp tooth at one end which is used as leverage to pop some locks here and there but in general, standard tools should do just fine.
