How To Light A Candle Without A Lighter
Here are instructions for lighting candles without a lighter.
Magnifying Lens
You can also use a magnifying glass to start a fire or even light a candle, but it might take some practice.
On sunny days, place the magnifying glass at the right angle and in focus and you will end up with an ember that is hot enough to set the paper on fire.
It will take time, however, until you get the correct angle. Be careful not to look through a magnifying glass at the sun because it can cause serious eye damage.
Flint
Another way to light a candle outside is by using flint. The goal here is to create sparks that will ignite the paper if it happens to be close enough to them.
Once you’ve lit up the paper, you can grab a fireproof cup that’s big enough for your candle and then safely light it with the paper in the cup.
Be mindful of any potential gusts of wind that may inadvertently stop your matches from acting as they should so take care before allowing a flame near your fingers and under no circumstances, attempt this outdoors when it’s raining.
Heating Elements
If you don’t have matches, the next best thing is to use the heating elements in your house. The most convenient thing will be to use a stove burner but one could also use their oven, a toaster, or even their space heater!
Turn on the burner and wait until it gets red. Then touch a long skinny candle a taper is best for it if you don’t have one of these candles that you can use we advise using a piece of dry spaghetti, but you must be very careful as it will catch fire easily.
You can also use a cotton swab if need be, but doing so increases your chances of getting burned by holding something with too much flame too close to your hand.
Matches
Matches will be the obvious answer to get fire lit should you not have a lighter. They’re among the most traditional ways of lighting a fire as they are easy, simplistic, and quick.
There is only one downside – that being that you run the risk of getting burned while using them also they can be tricky in certain situations since it’s difficult to strike them in a sometimes awkward angle when trying to light something such as candles that have low wicks which means your hand doesn’t always fit.
A candle can be lit by merely turning it upside down and lighting the wick. Matches are convenient since they can be found at almost every convenience store or gas station, and are a common household item to keep in your house for a variety of purposes.
Stove Use
You can use any things in your house to light a candle instead of using a lighter. Your stove is great if you need to know how to light a candle without matches.
Turn on the burner and wait until they heat up. Then touch your candle wick to the stovetop and it should catch fire immediately.
This works best with long skinny candles as the wick usually won’t reach the stovetop on shorter candles. If you have short candles with short wicks, then you can light them using a stovetop even though it might take some time.
To do this, you’ll need another object that can catch fire without being dangerous, such as a dry spaghetti noodle or q-tip. You can use heaters, ovens, and toaster ovens for this method. Once your makeshift wick is lit, you’ll be able to use it to light up all the other candles.
Use a Battery
There are several problems with this method and it can be quite dangerous if one isn’t careful. If you choose to use it in your candle, we recommend exercising caution.
With this method, we suggest sticking a battery that ranges from AA to D cell in size and wrapping the battery in tin foil twice its length. Afterward, cut a ¾ of an inch piece of tin foil that is shaped into a pointless than ¼ of an inch wide.
Remember to fold this piece of tin foil in half before molding the folded end into a rounded tip that is also no more than ¼ of an inch wide. Once you’ve done that, you should hold the opposite ends of the foil to each end of the battery.
The space between where you made your folds should heat up enough for the candle wick to begin burning and therefore setting fire to any candles it is near, allowing you to light them no matter what time during the day.
