The day before your event, hang the tablecloth on a clothesline outside and run a hairdryer over any stubborn wrinkles to help them disappear.
Flip the tablecloth inside out and tumble it in the dryer with another warm laundry.
Before publicizing an upcoming event, pre-treat major wrinkles in tablecloths by hand-washing or having them professionally cleaned. This will save you time and energy at the event itself.
The tablecloth should be laid flat
When you’re ready to make your tablecloth, set the ironing board up in a convenient spot. Fold up all the extra fabric and lay it next to the ironing board so it won’t get stepped on or cause tripping over.
Place an ironing mat under the tablecloth
Next, add an ironing board to the length of a dining table and lay it along with a pillowcase on top of it.
Then place something that has soft and fluffy material on it (like a bed pillow) over the pillowcase so that it covers all of the portions where you want to apply heat.
The protective cover that is placed will ensure that the tablecloth doesn’t melt as you use your hairdryer to heat up ceramic backings or support.
Dry the tablecloth with a hairdryer
Next, take a hairdryer and hold it 8 inches over the table cloth. Back and forth run it a few times over the length of the tablecloth while using your hands to smooth out any wrinkles.
When done, be sure to move around so as not to burn or damage the tablecloth in any way by overheating it.
Incorporate the tablecloth into the dryer
Pick up two bath towels and wring them out slightly. Then, place these on top of a tablecloth. Use something heavy to hold it down – like a book or small weight; you want the cloth to be in contact with the towel.
Next, pop this into a dryer for just one minute with medium heat settings. Then after the minute is up check on how much creasing has been eliminated.
If there are still some wrinkles then try letting this sit in the dryer longer – as long as one-hour maximum, but sometimes even 30 minutes will be enough depending on the circumstance.
Put the tablecloth on a flat surface
Place a smoothing cloth over your table. Place a blunt and heavy object like a cast-iron skillet on top of the folded cloth, then smooth it out with your hands while pressing down firmly to get rid of any wrinkles.
You can repeat this process two or three times to ensure that the cloth is as flat as possible. If you’re not satisfied with the results, try again.
