How to get rid of midge flies. Flying insects can be a nuisance to deal with on your property, especially in the summertime when we’re trying to enjoy you’re spending as much time outside as possible.
Based on how annoying and aggravating flying insects like midges can be just because of their size of them, it may not always seem worth trying to get rid of them if even one or two are seen hovering around.
However, there are some useful tips you’ll want to keep in mind if midges are ever seen buzzing around near your home so that you don’t have to put up with them for long no matter how many there might happen to be.
How to get rid of midge flies
If you are constantly experiencing midge attack in your garden, try mixing up a mixture of a few drops of washing-up liquid with some apple cider vinegar and place it into a bowl.
Midges are attracted by the scent but they get stuck when they land on the surface due to the bubbles created when combined with water.
Remember to remove and replace the mixture every day so dead midges don’t leave their smell behind that will attract more.
Maintain good Hygiene
It’s been scientifically proven that midges are drawn to carbon dioxide and our most common scent.
It has also been established that they’re attracted to us because of our body heat and the odor emitted through sweating, which is why it’s important to keep your home extra cool in the summer months.
Remove any Standing or Pooled water
Since midges are attracted to water, take care not to allow any standing or pooled water anywhere on the outside of your home’s exterior.
Potted plants can be moved away from doors and windows, but if you want to protect your home, it is a good idea to place a screen or some other kind of cover over the top of each pot in order to reduce outdoor pests’ access.
Build a Midge Trap
This is super easy to do and a great way to get rid of midges that are already in your home. Put apple cider vinegar into a bowl with a few drops of washing-up liquid.
These ingredients are what midges are attracted to, so leaving the bowl near bushes on your property or any dark corner of your garden will attract them.
They will go into the mixture and soon discover they can’t get away because they’ll become stuck.
You’ll have to change the mixture every few days otherwise you may end up with more nudging than you want around (though this won’t be visible unless you take the lid off!).
Invest in a Fogger for Indoor use
There are two ways to get rid of indoor midges. The first is to use an indoor fogger made from pyrethrin. Follow all manufacturers’ recommendations for safe fogging indoors.
The second way is to use DEET insect repellent on your body when in the house to further repel gnats and midges.
Both insecticide options will provide temporary solutions, so preventing more gnats from getting indoors is essential.
Maintain a Fresh Kitchen
House flies and mosquitoes love high-sugar foods including overripe fruit, garbage, soda, and certain fruits.
Make sure to get rid of any garbage that is making its way into your kitchen as this can become a problem when storing food.
Through proper sanitation by maintaining a clean kitchen, one can curb the number of pests who attempt to come through the front door.
Install Screens on your Doors and Windows
This is an excellent way to prevent them from getting into your home. Make sure they are tightly woven so that the midges can’t fly through even the tiniest hole.
