How long do candles last. The length of time a candle burn depends on many factors, including the material and size of the candle.
Generally, the burn time decreases as a candle gets shorter; taller candles produce more heat, resulting in a faster burn.
The average candle will burn for about the same amount of time regardless of the type. For an estimate of how long a candle will last, enter its height into a simple mathematical formula, or use an online calculator.
How long do candles last
Candles have a specific lifetime. However, this largely depends on the type of wax used in the candle’s making as well as how it’s stored.
When you’re purchasing candles one way we recommend saving money is by picking out candles that can be reused around your house from year to year like most all soy candles tend to have before eventually burning out of existence after a year or so.
Basics of Burning Time
Small candles usually burn for about five to seven hours per 1 ounce of wax.
Those with large wicks usually burn for only about three to five hours per 1 ounce of wax.
However, sometimes candles can last longer than these averages, depending on the diameter of the candle and its shape.
A 3-inch candle will generally last for three hours if you average it out, but there have been cases of such a candle lasting ten or even twelve hours.
One must look at the weight of the candle before making this calculation because adding a few more ounces of wax here and there can make a big difference in total burn time.
People who need more accurate information should weigh the candle before it is lit and burn it for an hour per one inch of its diameter after getting it all weighed down again once they take their measurements again when they turn off the flame.
Candle WAX
The candle wax used for Malibu Apothecary’s products can range from natural (all-natural) to synthetic. Although this may seem a little confusing, there is actually a reason why this might occur.
This proprietary blend made up of 25% Coconut and 75% Soy Wax offers an array of benefits that other candle waxes might not.
It burns hotter than other types of wax (thus creating a longer burn time without having to use any additives),
It is simple to clean off as opposed to Paraffin candles which prove more difficult,
it helps cut costs all while leaving you with an eco-friendly sustainable product that is good for both your soul and the environment, And it’s readily available at the local hardware store.
Wick Size Candles
Depending on the candle’s wick size, it will burn for a longer or shorter period of time.
Candles with a too-short wick won’t take up as much space as those with a long wick.
Too big of a wick would cause your candle to burn very quickly.
A good rule of thumb is to keep your wicks between an eighth and a quarter of an inch before lighting them.
The first time you burn a candle, you should let it burn for three to four hours before you do so again.
Container Size Candles
Container size affects the duration of a candle’s burn. Larger candles, those that are over 12 ounces, will burn for around five to eight hours per ounce.
Small candles under 12 ounces will burn for about four to seven hours per ounce. Our candles are 8 ounces and each will thus also burn for around 6.87 hours or not quite 7 hours from start to finish on average.
The Jar Candle’s Burn Time
How long you burn your jar candle depends largely on the size of the container.
Small jars holding 3.7 ounces of wax will burn for 25 to 40 hours, medium jars that hold 14.5 ounces of wax will burn for 65 to 90 hours, and large jars holding 22 ounces of wax will burn for 110 to 150 hours.
PartyLite 3-inch candles that are 3.5 inches high will burn 40 to 60 hours and these can be checked online once you know how many ounces of wax a jar holds according to different candle companies as each company tends to define small, medium, and large differences.
Keeping Candles Burning Longer
Choosing long-burning candles is the first step in extending the life of your candles. A candle that burns longer and cleaner creates fewer toxins in your home.
As well as provides a stronger scent for a longer period. Compared to paraffin candles, soy candles burn slower and cleaner.
They do not release as many toxins as paraffin and can be a great alternative if you want to reduce the number of chemicals being introduced into your home.
You should always use a wick trimmer once you light your new candle and always trim the wick down before lighting it.
This prevents uneven burns and flickering flames that can cause headaches or nausea due to their smell.
You should use the right size candle for the space you’re attempting to fill – a candle that is too big or too small won’t completely fill the space with a fragrance.
We recommend you take two inches off of the length and width of the wick of any new candle so it burns evenly.
