Hotpoint Dishwasher TroubleShooting
There are numerous reasons your dishwasher may not work, due to associated issues with the thermal fuse, door switch or latch, the timer, the touchpad, and control panel or the main control board.
All of these issues can be fixed by a trained technician. Here is a guide to troubleshooting Hotpoint Dishwasher,
The Hotpoint Dishwasher won’t drain
The dishwasher drain pump pushes water from the dishwasher into the drain via a drain hose. If not replaced, it may become clogged causing the dishwasher to overflow creating a mess, and flooding your kitchen floor.
Over time, drains begin to slow down, which makes them more susceptible to clogs. To keep water flowing through your drain valves, clean out your drains.
If the drain is clear of debris but it still won’t actuate, replace it. Drain valves are not repairable – if they break down and no longer work properly you must replace them entirely.
Blinking or flashing lights on Hotpoint dishwashers
The dishwasher lights are flashing continuously and an error code appears in the display window. Use the wiring diagram, tech sheet, and dishwasher manual to identify the dishwasher error code.
If a drain pump is defective and not working, a light on the control panel will start flashing. For example, when the dishwasher’s Soil Sensing System detects soil, an indicator light will flash to alert you that washing dishes without rinsing them first can lead to soil in the machine.
To check whether the pump is defective, use a multimeter to examine its continuity. If there is no continuity between two contact points of the motor, replace it.
Hotpoint Dishwasher not cleaning properly
The water inlet valve opens to allow water to enter the dishwasher.
If the valve is clogged with sediment or fails to close properly, the dishwasher cannot get enough water to clean dishes properly. If the water inlet valve is clogged, replace it.
Do not attempt to clean your malfunctioning water inlet valve once defective, it has become more likely to fail and should be replaced as soon as possible.
The water pump belt may be broken or damaged. Check your device’s model number to determine if it includes a water pump belt (disposable O-rings are not considered replacement parts).
If so, access the water pump by removing the lower panel. The water pump belt is located on the bottom of the motor. To repair, remove and replace the defective parts.
Hotpoint Dishwasher buttons don’t work
First, confirm that the product is turned on. If it’s turned on, try pressing some of the touchpad buttons. Aim to press buttons near the edge of the touchpad.
If some of the buttons are responding correctly but others do not respond or respond incorrectly, replace the touchpad immediately; otherwise your entire dishwasher might break down and you won’t be able to use it anymore!
The main control board is the brain at the center of the dishwasher. They make sure that everything’s running smoothly, but if there’s a problem with it, the voltage might not reach your touchpad and make it possible to turn off your dishwasher.
It’s important to remember that a bad part isn’t always where a manufacturer first looks to find the cause of an appliance failure. Make sure you test other parts before replacing your controlling mechanism!
Leaking Hotpoint Dishwasher
The water intake valve is responsible for allowing water to enter the dishwasher. If the intake valve is stuck open, it will continue to fill with water until it overflows, leaks or jams.
If the intake valve is defective and cannot be repaired, replace it by inserting a new one and twisting it into place with a Phillips screwdriver until it clicks.
If the wash arm is cracked, it can allow a jet of water to spray toward the door seal, causing a leak. Remove the wash arm and inspect it for cracks.
If the wash arm has cracks, replace it with a new one. Never attempt to repair a cracked wash arm the glue will break down in the dishwasher and cause additional problems.
If the wash arm is intact but you see loose screws that hold it in place up top, tighten them according to the manufacturer’s instructions to make sure that everything is secure and nothing is going to leak out later on down the line.
