Generac Generator Troubleshooting. Generac is a manufacturer of generators used to supply power at home and on the road. But if you want to get the most out of your generator, then you’ll need to make sure that you are conscientious about its care both short-term and long-term.
For example, one major benefit that many discover with owning one is truck availability for interesting or remote trips. However, if you’re not careful when transporting it from place to place over a long stretch of time.
Then it’s very possible that some important parts could begin to deteriorate, potentially causing serious issues like overheating or tripped circuit breakers.
Generac Generator Troubleshooting
We discuss how to troubleshoot some problems with Generac Generators here.
Generac Generator Doesn’t Run Smoothly
Check a spark plug for signs of damage or wear. Something as simple as an embedded stone in your spark plug could prevent it from working properly.
Check to see if carbon has built up on your electrode and make sure that it’s not caught under the ceramic insulator.
Spark plugs should light up normally with a spark plug tester once you’ve removed them so make sure to check that the spark is strong when you’re testing.
If there is no spark, then this may be due to a faulty spark plug which will require new ones to be purchased.
The carburetor needs cleaning. If the fuel that’s been left sitting in the generator becomes weaker over a long period of time and turns into a thicker, stickier substance, this can clog up the carburetor and render it useless.
Also, if some of the components in the fuel evaporate, this can also leave behind an even stickier result.
The stickiness in both scenarios can cause your engine to stall or run roughly as you drive around town. In order to fix this problem avoiding experiences like this, it is recommended you keep petrol (fuel) in an approved container and dispose of any old fuel regularly.
Generac Generator Won’t Run
As the fuel line is consumed by your motor, the level in your gas tank will lower. To make up for this, your car’s fuel cap employs a small vent to let air into the tank.
If this vent gets clogged, air won’t be able to get into the tank and it will create a vacuum/vapor lock that prevents fuel from reaching the carburetor which makes your engine stall right as you hit 65 MPH on the highway.
So to make sure that never happens, try slightly loosening your car’s fuel cap and then taking off down the road away before putting it back on.
The ability of your engine to keep going is a good sign that there’s some clogging taking place – so you might want to replace that thing real soon.
Generac Generator Will Not Start
The ignition coil sends electricity to the spark plug and causes it to ignite the air/fuel mixture while the engine is running.
If your car’s ignition coil is defective, it can make your engine fire improperly. This can prevent your car from starting properly before you replace the faulty part.
Before replacing a defective ignition coil, test your spark plugs to be sure they’re working correctly already.
If they have been, use an ignition coil tester to finally confirm if the problem lies with this part or not.
Once you’ve confirmed that the faulty component is indeed the ignition coil itself, then simply replace it with a new one so as to get back on track with enjoying driving again.
If the start switch is difficult to turn or does not always work, replace it. The starter switch is what’s used to power a generator.
If it isn’t working as expected, then that means you may need to change the old one out for a new one.
In order to do this, turn off the power to the switch first and locate the correct replacement part by referencing your owner’s manual online. so that you can dig into your installation instructions and see how long it actually takes to do the job yourself.
Generac Generator Gas leak
The fuel line in your generator might be leaking. Inspect the lines to make sure they’re not cracked or dry. If any of the fuel lines are damaged, you must replace them.
It is impossible to repair a fuel line if there is damage present you must always replace it so please do not attempt to fix it yourself.
Primer bulb leaks may be the cause. The rubber is likely to crack and become brittle over time, which will cause the leak to develop.
Replace the primer bulb if it is leaking because old and worn parts can lead to a part not working optimally or at all.
