GE refrigerator water dispenser not working. One of the best features of a modern fridge is its water dispenser, which releases refreshing cold water straight from the fridge.

For owners this is incredibly convenient but what can you do if your fridge’s water dispenser stops working all of the sudden?

If your fridge’s water dispenser isn’t working check that the water line to the fridge is turned on, ensure that it’s not frozen, replace the inlet valve, lower the temperature of your refrigerator or replace your tubing.

If your GE fridge water dispenser is not working, you have to check if the water line is switched on, be sure that the tube connecting it to the fridge isn’t frozen, replace the supply valve of the water tank, lower the internal temperature of your refrigerator or replace vinyl tubing as possible solutions.

Frozen Water Line or Tank

When the tubing that water flows through or the reservoir is frozen, you won’t get water through to the ice maker. However, the ice maker may still make ice.

If you suspect your GE refrigerator’s water line is frozen, it’s best to consult the appliance’s owner’s manual for suggested settings for both the refrigerator and freezer.

Adjust those settings as recommended by your manual and give it at least 24 hours to adjust back into its normal cycle.

The dispenser switch of every GE refrigerator sends voltage to the dispenser using a simple circuit.

When you discover that your water or ice dispenser isn’t working, and there is no power coming out of the dispenser, check to determine if the problem is with this switch.

To do so, simply touch one probe of a digital multimeter on the connector’s terminal and touch the other probe on any wire within the compartment (this may require disassembling some plastic panels).

If there is continuity (meaning that you were able to complete a circuit by touching both probes together), then it’s likely that the defect lies with the circuit board rather than some external part like loose wires. its needs to be replaced.

Dispenser Control Board Failure

Although a refrigerator not dispensing water or ice is rare, there are several things one can check that may be to blame.

If you have already checked everything and noticed a problem with the actual control board in a GE refrigerator, a professional diagnosis would be in your best interest in order to get a replacement in time.

The door switch in your refrigerator is an important safety feature that prevents flooding or other accidents, both big and small.

The door must be closed for the dispenser to work, but when you open it you will need to hold down the part of the button with your thumb so ice or water can dispense.

You can usually check this switch for continuity using a multimeter. If no continuity is found, it’s likely you have faulty wiring so you may need to consider replacing it once confirmation has been made either way.

Clogged Water Filter

If the water in your fridge isn’t as cold as usual or it has smaller cubes, it may be time to change the water filter.

Typically filters should be changed every 6 months or so and you can check if this is necessary by looking at the light on your refrigerator’s front panel which will either first turn yellow and then red once it’s time to replace it.

A clogged filter can restrict water from flowing through to the dispenser so we’d recommend first switching out the old one for a new one and then giving your fridge a couple of minutes to start pumping again as sometimes water might be stuck in there.

If everything goes as planned, you’ve solved the problem.

Defective Water Inlet Valve

The water valve is responsible for providing the dispenser with its essential components. If the valve is defective, or if there isn’t enough water pressure to it, the valve will not open and the dispenser may not work properly.

This means that we need at least 20psi in order for our water to-product mechanism to function as planned.

To test whether your valve is capable of providing 20psi of faultless water, first, check to see how much psi (or pressure) you’re currently receiving and then use a multimeter to see whether you’ve reached the magic number of 20psi or more .

This should be indicated on your pressure gauge as well as on your meter. If your pressure level indicates the desired amount of psi, you can conclude that it’s likely an issue with your internal valve which may mean replacing it altogether.
