Ge Range Stove Oven Troubleshooting. We know that the GE oven is a popular brand. Both electric and gas models are available, as well as ones with induction technology and warming drawers.
In general, their ovens work really well but there are common problems that we will outline below.
We think it’s also important for you to understand these issues so we’ve included a short troubleshooting area towards the end of this article where you can read about common fixes too.

Looking for tips on how to fix your GE range? Check out our easy-to-understand guide which will take you through common issues and provide insights.
GE oven won’t start
If the thermal fuse blows, your oven immediately turns off. To determine if the thermal fuse is at fault, test it for continuity with a multimeter.
If your thermal fuse does not have continuity and blows a fuse when tested with a multi-meter, replace it immediately. There is no reset mechanism for this component—if the fuse has blown, you must replace it.
The GE oven won’t heat
When one’s oven fails to heat up, the cause is usually a defective igniter. The igniter draws electrical current through the valve which opens it.
Then, it’s hot enough to glow and ignite the gas in the burner.
The igniter may also be defective if its glowing does not last for more than 90 seconds without lighting up the burner.
If an inspection reveals that the igniter is indeed faulty, only then should a replacement be installed otherwise this will keep happening over and over again.
Alternatively, if your igniter isn’t glowing at all even when the burner has been lit, test it with a multimeter for continuity.
The temperature on GE ovens is inaccurate
Oven sensors work in collaboration with the oven control board to regulate the temperature. They accomplish this by varying their resistance to electrical current as the oven’s temperature rises and falls.
As there is a rise in temperature, the oven sensor creates greater resistance. If it were to give an incorrect amount of resistance, then your oven may not heat or bake your food evenly.
Some brands allow you to accurately calibrate your oven control up to 35 degrees Fahrenheit higher or lower than what is indicated on the display panel so long as you refer to your owner’s manual for instructions on how to do so properly.
GE Oven fan won’t shut off
The oven control board sends electrical current to the bake, broil, and fan circuits based on various triggers such as how you set the controls and what type of food you’ve placed in the oven.
If any of these relays are damaged, they may send power to the fan circuit continuously. However, this is generally not the case.
Before replacing the control board, it would be best first to check some key components inside the machine for irregularities such as thermostats. If one of these thermostats is faulty, it might cause continuous operation of your oven fan.
The GE Range surface element will not turn off
To troubleshoot a faulty surface element switch on an electric range, find the source of the problem. If it is the switch, replace it.
You can also try correcting your problem by resetting the circuit breaker that runs to your oven and range because if you don’t fix this, you may end up damaging other parts in the heating system when attempting to heat up your surface elements again.
GE ovens aren’t evenly baking
If the bake element is burned or faulty, the oven will only heat using the broil element (see below). This will cause the oven to heat unevenly. Baking is a slower form of heating than broiling and can take longer to do its job.
When the bake element has burnt out it will have noticeable burn marks or blackened areas.
In order to ensure that your bake element has not been damaged as a result of overheating during use, either unplug your appliance completely or test it with a multimeter set at 400 volts AC and then test with the appliance unplugged if it fails this test then you must replace this part immediately.
The GE ovens broiler doesn’t work
The broil element glows red hot if it is heating properly. It indicates that it is not heating if the element does not glow red.
Check for holes or blisters on the broil element if this is the case. Make sure that the broil element has continuity with a multimeter; if it does not, replace it.
GE Range burners spark constantly
The spark igniters could be sticking out of their slots. Whenever the ignition key is turned to the ON position, a voltage runs through each of the spark pipes when the engine is cranked in order to ignite fuel trapped in a cylinder.
If the spark igniter sticks out too far, it may be struck by the voltage that travels down the pipe instead of being pushed back into its seat, allowing voltage to continue running down the pipe and potentially causing a car fire.
To fix this potential defect, check each igniter’s bolts on either side of its slot with a bolt wrench and tighten them as necessary if they appear loose or worn.
