Magnetrons use a type of power known as direct current, which is continuous and flowing in one direction.
It’s important to know this because it’s very different from alternating current power used in the electrical outlets around your home.
Magnetrons generate microwave frequencies so they can heat up your food in a similar way that lightning causes molecules to vibrate in the air and produces thunder.
If the magnetron isn’t working properly an overheating might occur which could lead to a fire, but be sure not to worry about such things unless you are a professional technician.
If your magnetron does stop working normally you’ll have to replace it before you try starting up your microwave again.
Issue With Door Switch
Most microwaves have a door switch for power, a time switch for keeping the microwave on throughout the duration of the heating process, and then there’s the start button.
The start button is the one that gets pressed when we want to start cooking something in our microwave oven. If any of these stops working, food will never cook or heat inside our microwaves.
To determine if any of these switches has gone out, use a multimeter to test each of them for continuity.
If any arc-fault circuit breakers are found by testing then replace them with new ones immediately because that way you can make sure there won’t be an electrical fire or disaster coming up in your home kitchens.
Cause Of Diode
The diode doubles the voltage to nearly 1,000 volts by converting the transformer’s A/C output to D/C. The high voltage drives the magnetron to heat your food.
The diode is often visibly burned out if it fails. It is possible to tell if it needs to be replaced by looking at the diode.
Testing it with a multimeter that uses a 9-volt battery or putting a 9-volt battery in series with the diode and then testing again would be the next best option.
This process results in two possible outcomes for continuity: facing one way generates continuity; facing the other way generates no continuity.
Faulty Thermal Fuse
The thermal fuse which is inside of the microwave is what helps protect it from overheating okay. So if there’s something wrong with it, the microwave will actually not work at all.
To determine if this has been the case, one must first check to make sure that there isn’t a break in the connection by measuring the continuity of both ends of it using a multimeter and if they are okay then you know that the thermal fuse needs to be replaced okay.
However, an important thing to note here too is that these fuses cannot really ever be reset at all because once they are blown or pop and burn out like that, they have to be replaced alright.
The Thermo protector prevents the microwave from overheating. If the Thermo protector is no longer working, you may need to replace it.
First, use a multimeter test to see if the Thermo protector is receiving power to it and then test for continuity if there is power supplied.
If, after doing this there is still no continuity, your best bet would be to replace the Thermo protector before continuing the use of the microwave.
Defective Main Control Board
The main control board might certainly be misdiagnosed. This is not always the case.
Control boards happen to be commonly misdiagnosed, so before replacing the control board, you should check all of the more commonly defective components related to the machine that needs fixing or maintenance.
If all of these other components are working fine, then replace the main control board immediately.
