Front load washer not spinning. There is nothing more frustrating than spending too much time washing clothes that come out still dirty or not completely clean because the machine itself is acting up.
For those reasons, we’ll troubleshoot some challenges related to a malfunctioning washer with an off-balance load or a faulty tub bearing.
Front load washer not spinning
Sometimes you can throw too many clothes into your washer and they don’t all get clean.
This is because the machine just doesn’t have enough water to clean them properly.
No matter what kind of washing machine you have, here are a few simple tips that can help remove that pile of dirty laundry.
The faulty motor control board
If you run into trouble with your washing machine, one of the things you need to look at is the motor control board which should be easily accessible.
It’s crucial that you use a multimeter to test the board and make sure it’s not defective in any way because this is where all of your troubles will start if there is a short or something similar.
It’s possible that it may have burned out completely so double check as much as you can.
Defective drive motor
If your washer doesn’t start spinning clothes, but otherwise seems to be working correctly, the motor for spinning clothes may be burned out.
The motor is the humming part at the bottom of the washer. If it makes a humming noise when turned on, but nothing happens, it probably needs to be replaced.
Drive belt issue
The belt on your lower front loader washer also known as tub drive belt may need to be replaced. This is normally due to normal wear and tear, age, or if the machine you own is particularly old.
A broken or worn-out drive belt can cause your washer to not function correctly so it’s always a good idea to have a few extra belts on hand just in case one does break.
Fault With door lock
The control locks the washer door during operation. If it is malfunctioning, then it may not agitate or spin even with the door fully closed.
One way to test is to measure continuity between the two pieces with a multimeter an electrical current complete from one end of the component to another.
If you find an open circuit present in this component, it is considered defective and you will need a new lock mechanism for your washer.
The failed stator or rotor assembly
If either the stator windings or rotor magnets are damaged, the tub may not spin or agitate until one or both of the components are replaced.
Additionally, a failure to replace a damaged component can potentially lead to more damage, which would be a huge issue if it occurred within your family as they’ll be caught short of clean underwear and towels.
FAQs
What would cause a washing machine to not spin?
An unbalanced load of laundry can cause the drum on your washer to run out of balance. Clothes that settle on one side or another will ruin your clothes and potentially damage your machine.
Before starting a cycle, make sure all garments have been folded equally and are distributed equally in each bin. If you’re still seeing issues, try doing some trial runs with just a few pieces of clothing, if possible.
How do I know if the belt has gone on my washing machine?
Examine if your washer is hydraulic and the water won’t leave the machine after it’s been washed. This may happen after a cycle when there are belts to be assessed.
When you have more than one belt, most of them will spin at different speeds unless something goes wrong.
The lack of drain hoses or broken valves may also contribute to this issue happening time and time again.
