Frigidaire ice maker overfilling. If your fridge’s ice maker is overflowing, there are two possible causes. The first is that the ice bucket is filling up with cubes and the ice maker keeps on producing more.
This means the cubes are normal size. The second cause would be that water is flooding out of your fridge as it fills the ice tray. In this instance, you likely have a large chunk or sheet of ice inside of your freezer.
Both scenarios are very easy to deal with and don’t require too much expertise when it comes to repairing fridges to do so.
Frigidaire ice maker overfilling
If your water is too low, the valve may not be able to close when it’s supposed to which causes ice to fill up the cavity that would usually hold water.
This will cause an ice buildup in the ice maker and will eventually melt over the side of your freezer compartment with disconcerting noises.
If the water supply is working fine but you’re still experiencing this problem then it’ll likely be that the part that closes isn’t fully closing or has a crack that won’t be visible but still is continuous until it freezes.
The following are some more common reasons and how to fix them:
Replacing the water inlet valve is necessary
The water inlet valve requires a minimum of 20 psi to shut off properly. If the water pressure is too low, the valve may not close fully once the power is shut off. As a result, the valve will leak water into the ice maker and cause the ice maker to overflow.
Check the power control option switch/inlet valve solenoid voltage circuit/electromagnetic switch wiring harness. See Wiring Diagrams.
If voltage is present at that terminal and there is no evidence of damage to that circuit, then likely defective water inlet valve (Inspect). Replace the water inlet valve if necessary at this point.
Defective Ice Maker Assembly
One of the most important parts of this machine is the ice maker assembly. Without it, you don’t have a functioning ice maker! In some cases, one single defective part or a number of them can lead to the entire unit becoming non-functional.
The good news is that replacement parts are easily available online and even from local stores, but you should always verify compatibility with your product before purchasing something.
Low Water Pressure issue
The valve supplies ice and water for the appliance. The water must be of a sufficient PSI to perform at par performance, which is at least 20 psi.
Check whether your water pressure is at least 20 psi to ensure that the water and ice apparatus don’t overflow and render you frustrated.
The bucket must be placed properly beneath the ice maker
If the bucket is not in a level position, the ice will not be able to make it inside. Such a problem can be quite worrisome because as we know it may cause ice to spill over or even worse, clog the drain.
Ensure that the feeler arm is not broken
If the ice maker is broken, it will not know when the bucket is full and continue to produce ice. You’ll need to check out the guide below for specific replacement parts.
But make sure you get the correct model number or else you might end up replacing something that does not need replacing.
The ice maker is broken
If the refrigerator is having an issue with ice buildup in the ice maker, your first guess as to what might be wrong may be correct.
However, it’s not about replacing the ice maker, but keeping it well-maintained so that there isn’t a problem in the first place! That way does a lot of damage can be avoided before the next course.
