Freezer coils frozen
To ensure that your freezer’s evaporator coils remain thawed, the defrost heater will turn on several times throughout the day to melt away any frost that may have accumulated.
If the defrost heater does not come on when it should, frost will continue to build up on the evaporator coils, and eventually, they’ll be completely iced over. This can prevent air from flowing through.
To determine if the defrost heater is turning on, use a multimeter to test it for continuity. If there is no continuity present at the terminals of the defrost heater, then you need to replace it.
A frigidaire freezer keeps running
If a fan motor is not working it should be replaced. Fans are a crucial component of the condenser, which is located at the back of a refrigerator’s exterior. Air passes through the condenser and over the condenser coils.
If there is an obstruction in the blades or they do not spin freely, replace them. Now you can test to see whether the fan motor has continuity by using a multimeter.
You need to determine whether that it does, replace it. The evaporator fan collects and circulates air throughout your freezer compartment.
The most common cause of failure for this particular part is when something obstructs airflow over its coils – like ice buildup for example.
It’s also important to check whether there are any obvious signs of damage such as cracks or broken wires as either problem would render your evaporator fan motor useless.
Freezer not working, clicking noise
When the freezer does not cool, a problem with the start relay can be the cause. If you suspect the start relay is defective, remove it and test for continuity.
To test if the start relay is burnt, smell if there is an odor that resembles burnt plastic. If any of these things are true, replace the broken part immediately and see if this corrects the faulty cooling problem.
If testing suggests that the compressor may be at fault regardless of whether or not you have replaced the faulty parts, clean dust around and/or underneath it to improve cooling efficiency.
