Frigidaire dishwasher troubleshooting
Your dishwasher can start to become problematic at times if you don’t tend it properly.
Many homeowners have had their own experience with a clogged drain or a leaky dishwasher and had to call in for professional assistance at some point.
With our troubleshooting guide, we’ll help you diagnose what your problem could be and help you decide on which replacement part to order. All you need is your model number, and let’s get started.
The dishwasher won’t start
The door switch prevents the dishwasher from running while the door is open. If the door switch is defective, the switch will prevent the dishwasher from running even when the door is closed.
To determine if the door switch is at fault, use a multimeter to test for continuity and check if it has continuity. If it does not have continuity, replace it.
Frigidaire Dishwasher doesn’t clean
The water inlet valve opens to allow water to enter the dishwasher. If the valve is clogged or defective, the dishwasher won’t get enough water to clean dishes properly. If the water inlet valve is clogged, replace it.
Do not attempt to clean or repair a clogged valve – doing this could make it more likely to fail. You should search for your model number and check to see if it uses a pipe belt pump instead of an inlet valve.
Because most dishwashers don’t require an inlet valve since they use a pipe belt pump instead that can be replaced if ever damaged or overly worn.
To access this you will need to remove the lower panel and inspect its thickness/age and wear it accordingly. Use your ears from now on when testing appliances – replacing pumps can save your ears from future pain.
The dishwasher won’t drain
The pump is responsible for moving water down the drain hose. When it comes to the garbage disposer, the water is part of the garbage and thus must be disposed of.
The other end is linked to a drain line that removes waste from the dishwasher properly. It’s affected by clogs which can cause backing up, or it might not have enough power to drain at all.
You may have brought your dishwasher in because you found clogged or cruddy water inside of it! This means that you may need a professional to make necessary repairs on your unit especially if it’s shorting out.
Dishwasher leakage issue
The water inlet valve allows water to enter the dishwasher so it can be brought down to the correct temperature. If the water inlet valve is stuck open, the dishwasher will continue to fill with more and more water until something overflows or malfunctions.
It’s not a good idea for it to stay like that because something will surely go wrong before completing its cycle once you turn it on.
If the water inlet valve is stuck open like this, change out the old one with a new one that comes with fresh installation instructions that are readily available online or elsewhere if need be.
It’s always smart to have replacement parts on hand (like new dishwashers ) before they run into issues that are out of our control.
A frigidaire dishwasher will not latch
Double-check that the door latch mechanism is working correctly. If the latch is broken, you will need to replace it. If the door hinges are damaged, they won’t be able to hold the door shut on a tight spring and must be replaced.
If the door catch is not aligned properly, make the necessary adjustments. Replace the door catch if it is broken.
The dishwasher won’t fill up
The water inlet valve is used to provide water to the dishwasher. If the water inlet valve is clogged or does not work properly, there may be an issue with getting this done.
The float switch actuates during the washing cycle of a dishwasher. If it is defective or stuck and does not release at the appropriate time, then this can cause excess water to remain inside your appliance.
You will want to check to see that it is in proper working condition before replacing the float switch. However, this will require checking for any signs of corrosion and potentially repairing or rebuilding the device depending on what is wrong if you intend to continue using it after making repairs yourself.
Dishwasher making noises
The Dishwasher has two major components. One of them is the motor, which moves the water from a utility tub under the sink into a disposer or drain line.
If something is wrong with the blades inside the motor that turn to direct incoming water toward its target (the disposer or drain line), it will begin to make an unusual sound, much like a broken fan.
The other component is called an impeller. It directs water through a sensor to move it from one place to another, much like using a directional spray bottle in your yard. This way, debris won’t clog up the hose as easily.
Dishwasher not drying dishes
The vent might not be opening properly as the dishes are drying. Many dishwashers use a vent to let out the hot, steamy air generated during the rinse cycle.
If the vent does not open properly, the dishwasher will leave moisture on the dishes. Check the vent to ensure that it is opening properly before washing more dishes.
When this happens, you can make sure that your vent is clear of any obstruction thus allowing air to flow freely into and out of it which increases drying time and subsequent drying effectiveness.
