Frigidaire air conditioner not cooling. After more than 100 years of building home appliances, Frigidaire has figured out how to make windows and portable air conditioners that work. Unfortunately, nothing is perfect.
Some of the most common things that go wrong with Frigidaire air conditioners have simple fixes, so there is no need to call in the big guns unless you are overly concerned about costs or other consequences.
Frigidaire air conditioner not cooling
Your air conditioner might not be working because it’s clogged up. This is inconvenient and unfortunate.
You can take a look at the filter. If it’s become too dirty, try to clean it out using water as lubrication so that things run smoothly again. It might be time for a new one if cleaning isn’t an option.
The compressor needs to be repaired
The compressor might be defective. An overload protector and capacitor can also be defective.
Be sure to check these components before replacing the compressor.
If the compressor is faulty, replace it with one that has an Energy Star label or mark of approval.
You will only want to replace this part when you are certain that it needs to be replaced and only by a licensed professional.
Air Filter clogs
If the air filter is clogged, air cannot flow properly through the air conditioner. This greatly reduces the cooling capacity of the air conditioner.
In addition to that, if the air filter is clogged, the evaporator coils will frost over. To take care of this situation, make sure you clean out any debris from your filter.
If it’s not possible to clean it entirely, get a new one instead and be mindful going forward about making sure everything stays clear for the future.
Dirty condenser coils
As the refrigerator works, the compressor receives heat which is dissipated once it’s sent through the condenser coils. They need to be kept clean in order to properly chill your products.
Naturally, the longer you have your appliance running the more likely it is that some dust will build upon them. If this occurs, it’s going to make your fridge work even harder and thus potentially blow up your energy bill (which means spending more money).
Therefore, be sure to keep an eye on things to ensure that everything remains in tip-top condition including listening for loud clanking noises this can mean something’s about to give particularly if you notice that there’s a strong burning smell.
Defective Thermistor
The thermistor is a sensor attached to the control board that detects the air temperature. Depending upon the air temperature, the thermistor’s resistance value changes.
If the air temperature rises, the resistance value will decrease. To determine if there is something wrong with your thermistor, use a multimeter to test it for continuity.
If there is something wrong with your thermistor, consider replacing it as soon as possible so that you’re able to continue using your heater without seeing any kind of disruption in service.
Faulty Thermostat
Air conditioning monitors the temperature of the air in order to make sure it’s not too hot or too cold.
The thermostat is a device that reacts when the temperature reaches a certain point and this is often a set-point we have chosen ourselves.
If the air conditioner doesn’t turn on properly but we have checked that the power is flowing to the whole appliance, you may wish to test if your thermostat itself has failed by checking for continuity with a multimeter.
A thermostat that does not have continuity when the air conditioner is set to cool needs to be replaced.
Run Capacitor issue
If the run capacitor burns out, the compressor will not run. To determine if the run capacitor is burned out, test its continuity. If it has none, replace it.
An identifying feature of a run capacitor is that it is often black in color and has a relatively simple configuration to ensure that power is stored and then released in intervals as needed.
Failure of the main control board
The main controls board regulates the voltage that is sent to the compressors and fans.
If the main control board fails, it may be necessary to replace some parts that might not work properly like the fan or compressor.
Although this can be easily determined using a multimeter, it’s also imperative since a lot of techs are misdiagnosing this particular problem by checking on the faulty part directly instead of testing first on the actual cause which many times ends up being the main control board in this sort of situation.
The temperature control board is faulty
Troubleshooting a faulty air conditioner for faulty temperature control is not as simple as it may seem.
A lot of times, people waste valuable time and money by incorrectly replacing parts that are in fact not faulty simply so they can sell you a pricey replacement part.
To avoid this issue altogether, make sure to first test the entire unit and check ALL components before choosing to replace any one of them.
Don’t let anyone try to up-sell you on a warranty or about how much better the new model with be for your home.
If everything turns out okay in your troubleshooting process, only then should you take the plunge and replace each and every component until it no longer causes problems so it still stays within your price range.
