In this article, we discuss some problems with Electrolux dryers when they won’t start.

Faulty Power Supply

Sometimes the power source of your dryer can cause it not to start properly. You’ll want to check the condition of your dryer’s power cord first to see if it reveals any signs of fraying or damage.

If that doesn’t work, then there might be an issue with your power outlet. Try plugging another device or appliance into the outlet and test that it works before concluding that you need a new one.

The last thing to check will be your circuit breaker or fuse box in your home because these issues may also lead to a malfunctioning dryer so seeing as how this is less complicated than some of the other things mentioned, fixing them would be key in seeing if it solves the problem.

Dryer Belt Broken

The dryer belt is responsible for rotating the drum while the drum bearing rotates, which allows your clothes to tumble and dry.

The drum bearing may keep running when the belt stops working, but the actual drum in a front-loading machine doesn’t rotate. To replace a broken dryer belt, unplug your dryer first.

You will need to remove the upper panel grille, front panel, and bulkhead to gain access to the belt around the drum. Press down on idler pulley to detach old belt.

Remove the old belt and replace it with a new one that matches the model. Make sure your new belt is suitable for the model of your dryer.

Issue With Timer

Often, the timer on your dryer will break. This is one of the most common reasons for a washer to become defunct.

Before you replace the timer, test all components located near the timer board, including the motor and switchboard for shorts in the wiring.

Once you’ve tested everything else and ensured that it’s fine, then and only then should you replace the timer.

Cause Of Belt Switch

When the dryer belt breaks on some models of dryers, they will still run but nothing will turn.

However, if a particular model of dryer has a switch to shut off the dryer if the belt is broken it could have failed and shut off power, even when the belt is not broken.

First, you should try starting the dryer and if you hear a noise then this indicates that there is no problem with the switch.

Next check and search for your model number to determine whether or not your dryer has a belt switch. If they do have one then using a multimeter test its continuity. If it doesn’t then replace it.

Defective Drive Motor

In order to exhaust the air, the drive motor turns the drum and the blower wheel. Ensure that the thermal fuse is still functioning before replacing the motor and that there are no obstructions in between the belt and the blower wheel before replacing the motor.

If there are no obstructions on either of these parts, it’s possible that your drive motor might not be working properly. In this case, replacing it would be necessary.

Error In Door Switch

The door switch on your dryer is usually used as a safety feature to guard against accidental fires caused by lint accumulation. In order to shut off the power, you’ll need to make sure that the switch is not blocked in any way.

Start turning the door switch off your dryer and listen for a clicking noise that should sound intermittently until the drum is started.

Similarly, if you can clearly see this mechanism by looking for it, you can use a multimeter to limit power flow when a hardware switch is manually pressed.

By virtue of these actions being completed, you can safely assume that your door switch is working as intended.

Faulty Thermal Fuse

The thermal fuse is a safety device designed to protect the dryer from overheating. The fuse is located at your dryer’s heat source such as the heating element on electric models or at the burner on gas models.

When it is working normally, its electrical path should be unbroken. Overheating means its path has been broken, meaning it’s blown.

You can test if this part works with a multimeter by touching the test leads together and touching each of its terminals to see if electricity passes through.

A blown thermal fuse indicates a problem with the dryer’s exhaust. Check for other problems as well.
