The line of the Weed Eater trimmer head won’t advance if it is too short because not enough centrifugal force acts on it. This can happen if you don’t tap the head frequently enough or the string becomes sheared by a piece of wire or a root.

Echo String trimmer head-spinning continuously

When you depress the clutch, the clutch assembly disengages the clutch pads from spinning, which is what spins your trimmer head.

If your clutch assembly doesn’t disengage any longer, replace it. (Note that some string trimmers don’t have a clutch at all, and if this is the case for yours, your string trimmer head will continue spinning whenever the engine is running).

The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is most commonly caused by leaving fuel in a motorized string trimmer for too long. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel may evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance.

This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and cause the engine to run roughly.

If it appears that your carburetor has been stuck, take out the parts and clean them with an easily accessible cleaning agent such as carb cleaner or alcohol depending upon the type you are working on.

It will work wonders to remove all residue – use this process before rebuilding a damaged piece or simply replacing it altogether.

Echo String trimmer head is not spinning

The trimmer head engages with the driveshafts when the clutch is being engaged. However, if the fasteners or plates of the clutch are worn out, then you aren’t able to engage your driveshafts and cause them to rotate your trimmer head.

The best way to solve this problem without replacing an entire clutch assembly is to replace just your fasteners and plates with a new clutch at hand.

The shaft connecting the trimmer head to the rest of the machine is a long, flexible shaft used for rotating and powering the entire unit.

If this part breaks, your string trimmer will no longer rotate or spin and you’ll have to replace it.

Starts then stalls issue

A spark arrestor is a small screen that prevents the engine from emitting sparks.

After some time, the spark arrestor can become clogged with soot and this can cause your engine to stall if it hasn’t been replaced or cleaned. To clean out the spark arrestor, remove it and clean it with a wire brush.

There could be many reasons why your engine may not be starting, choking or running properly.

When you’re having trouble figuring out what might have caused the problem in the first place, checking your fuel lines is a good idea to start.

Many times we can forget that we need to dispose of old gas and oil and don’t put as much care into keeping it stored/used up quickly. This can create buildup over time that will ruin your fuel system!
