Broil element not working. The broil setting on your oven typically goes underutilized. It comes in handy for crisping a casserole or topping off a baked potato after an hour in the oven,
but if it doesn’t work at all, you may start to notice that the broiler is in fact impacting the normal function of your oven including cooking time, temperature and heat distribution.
This can have disastrous effects on any recipe that requires consistent broiler usage.
Broil element not working
As the broil element is integral to your kitchen oven’s operation, you can see how imperative it is that you replace a broil element when it starts to burn out.
Yet, while a faulty element may be one major cause of a broil element malfunctioning, it is not the only factor that needs to be addressed.
Here we will discuss some common issues and solutions for the broil element not working.
Defective Oven Control Board
The control board is the brain of your oven. This means that many issues with wall-mounted cookers or self-standing hobs can be a result of the control board being faulty or not working properly.
You may notice problems like the display lighting up but you might not be able to access certain functions, and that’s where you need to seek advice from experts as they will then know what is required to fix the problem and to keep your cooker in optimal working order.
Problem With Broil element
When you suspect your top oven’s broiler element to be defective, the first step you can make is to disconnect it by unplugging the attached electrical wires.
You should then initiate a multimeter test to find out conclusively if the broiler element is indeed faulty – this will save you time and effort from not having to fix things that are not actually broken.
If it turns out there is no electrical activity in the broiler element, you’ll know for sure there is something wrong with that half of your stove, but at least you won’t have to worry about fixing it again for a while!
Relay Board’s Problem
Some ovens have a relay board that controls the voltages to different parts of the oven. The relay board may have several relays that are used to control the voltage going to heating elements, which are also known as broil elements.
If one or more of these relays on the relay board fails, it might affect one or more of your broil elements and make them stop working.
However, rarely does this occur so if it does fail, you should check out other components in your oven such as heating elements and coils first because those tend to go bad fairly quickly.
After checking all of those parts, if none of them seem to be at fault, then you’ll want to replace the relay board itself because it could be causing issues.
Defective Safety Valve
When your oven’s safety valve stops working, you may not be sure of the culprit. You may be thinking that the safety valve itself is faulty, but it’s quite rare for a safety valve to fail.
The most likely culprit is your oven igniter because it fails more often and provides the most critical function to run your oven.
To test your other components, look first at the more commonly defective components which in this case is the igniter.
If your igniter has been replaced recently and still isn’t working, pick up a multimeter and test your safety valve for continuity. If it doesn’t have continuity, replace it.
Issue with Thermostat
The thermostat is responsible for regulating the level of temperature in the corresponding appliance.
If the thermostat is faulty, it may fail to heat up or it might not turn off when the necessary temperature has been achieved.
The oven thermostat is not repairable if it’s defective, you have to replace it completely with a new one.
Defective Spark Electrode
For broiler-burner ignition, an oven broiler burner spark electrode is used to spark the gas using electricity. The electrode is a device similar to a spark plug that lies right next to the broil burner itself.
It functions as a tiny hydrogen bomb and can be compared to the electrodes on your computer when electricity reaches it and makes it do what it does best.
If you damage or crack one of them, it may not work as well or at all anymore so check it regularly.
A proper ground and incoming power are also necessary for this flame detector to function properly because if either of these works incorrectly, it will make you unable to ignite your broil burners hence making cooking quite impossible.
