Aprilaire not working

Aprilaire not working. If your humidifier isn’t working, be sure to check it for water inlet valve problems.

There are two main causes of this problem. A clogged water feed system or a malfunctioning valve mechanism.

To test the function of the inlet valve, check for continuity. If the water feed line is clogged or defective, the humidifier will fail to fill with water during operation and will not emit moisture into your home as expected.

If any component at all related to your humidifier is clogged within it .including the drain line, this will definitely prevent humidity from being added into the air within your home or office throughout the living space.

If your humidifier won’t fill with water, it might be time to check out the humidistat.

The problem could simply be that the humidistat isn’t set high enough, or is malfunctioning. If that’s the case, these are some common issues and how to fix them:

The water inlet valve is blocked

The water inlet valve is an electrically-controlled valve that when open allows water to fill the humidifier.

Humidifiers will not fill with water if the water inlet valve is clogged or defective. Use a multimeter to determine whether the valve works. If it doesn’t, it should be replaced.

Test incoming power to the valve this step may require an electrician because most wires are routed through walls,

then up through baseboards or similar areas inaccessible without disassembling wall tiles. Test all connections if possible before resorting to calling an electrician.

If there is no incoming power but the water inlet valve has continuity, and is getting electricity, and still will not allow for enough fluid flow into the humidifier vessel as designed.

You might want to call a plumber, who may be able to remove a build-up of mineral deposits causing problems for your ‘in’ pipeline.

Defective Humidistat

If your humidifier will not be filled with water, it may be because the humidistat is incorrectly set or broken.

The screws on the back of the humidistat should be loosened and the black plastic dial should be turned to the highest setting and then pushed back in.

If you hear a click when turning this plastic dial, but the unit still won’t fill with water, it’s possible that there is an issue with the wiring connections inside so we recommend trying getting a replacement part for your electric plug-in indoor use only.

An obstructed saddle valve

The saddle valve is a small brass water supply valve that can be attached to any household’s water supply pipe. Sediment or calcium deposits can clog the saddle valve over time.

Because it can be difficult to clean a saddle valve thoroughly and because the replacement cost is fairly low, we recommend replacing the saddle valve if it is restricted.

Water solenoid valve Problem

Unplug the humidifier unit and turn off its breaker. Turn off the water supply line to the unit and remove it from your home from outside the dwelling by turning inlet and outlet compression nuts on the waterline.

Make sure to do this in a safe way, wear protective clothing and goggles if needed.

Drain port issue

When installing the humidifier pad assembly, take care that the bottom of the pad is inserted into its fitting on the bottom of the housing, and then be sure to insert a drain hose so that excess water can flow out through it.

When resting, place this assembly fairly close to level. If you notice any power drainage from your humidifiers related to overflow water in the collection tray, stop using it until you can find a solution to this prevention problem.

How do I know if my Aprilaire humidifier is working?

By adjusting the manual humidistat to an appropriate area away from its current position you should see water coming out of the drain line within a few minutes which would indicate your humidifier is ready to go.

How do I know if my humidifier solenoid is bad?

When the high voltage wiring harness detects an issue in the heating circuit, a clicking noise can be heard and water will flow into the humidifier.

If water doesn’t flow or clicking noise isn’t heard or if the air feels dry and you don’t see any evidence of moisture the humidifier may have a failed control sensor.

It’s also possible for customers to hear no noises when their humidifier is turned on and yet still see evidence of moisture in their furnace room.

This may indicate that there is a bad wire or relay/timer/relay inside your furnace as well as some water leakage.
