Amana Freezer Troubleshooting. People mostly use their refrigerators to store food items but there are plenty of other uses apart from that.
For instance, your home freezer is a good place to keep ice cubes. If you don’t go out that often, this makes it effective since they’re available when you need them.
If your refrigerator doesn’t get cooled or frozen anymore, you should perform some tests first before calling service because more damage can be done as a result. Until then, check the other tips in this article so that you can fix the problem on your own.
Amana Freezer Troubleshooting
This post describes some common problems with Amana Freezers and their solutions are given below.
The Amana Freezer won’t freeze
There are several things to consider when dealing with the cooling system. The condenser is located on the back of the unit and it’s a source of airflow for your refrigerator. Make sure you clean those coils every six months or so.
If you don’t, they’ll get dirty and won’t do their job very well. They’re responsible for removing excess heat from where refrigeration occurs: around your freezer, fridge, and food storage compartments.
Ideally, they should be cleaned every 6-12 months but if this is too frequent in your case, then definitely schedule it before the 12 months are up. You might wonder how you’re going to get inside there.
Simply clean by gently scrubbing with a mixture of mild soap and water using a soft cloth dipped in soapy water (never use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners).
Amana Freezer defrost drain is frozen
The drain strap that’s located in the back of your freezer may be off or worn out, especially if it is made of aluminum or copper. A small piece of metal will conduct heat with electricity as part of the defrost timer and sit within a tube running alongside the back wall.
This will melt any ice that accumulates within the tubing and keep it from building up to higher than what is usual. If you don’t see this metal strap, you should look into replacing or checking it to ensure no burns have developed on the tubing or other parts in which it makes contact.
Amana Freezer coils are frozen
The defrost heaters turn on several times throughout the day to melt away any frost that may have accumulated on the freezer evaporator coils. If the defrost heaters do not turn on, frost will continue to accumulate on the evaporator coils, and the coils will eventually frost over.
To determine if one of these defrost heaters is at fault, there are a couple of different items that you should test for. The first is continuity which, when testing for voltages, should read somewhere between 3-10 volts depending on where specific points of testing fall within that range.
As well as resistance (ohms), which depending upon how this test goes, should show anywhere from 0-infinity ohms (greater resolutions may be necessary depending upon your meter, though).
If these tests yield inconclusive results or don’t give a proper reading at all, then it’s suggested to try replacing these components with new ones before taking further steps, such as testing other components of this system.
The Amana Freezer runs constantly
The condenser fans are often forgotten about until they don’t work anymore. But the fact is that these fans are something we will benefit from throughout our lives and with continuous use.
These fans serve a very important purpose in our homes, especially if your home has no central air conditioning system or only some rooms aren’t cooled by the central unit because it would be too expensive.
The whole point of a fan is to cool off a specific area. We need it, and we need to take care of it like any other appliance in the house and just make sure it’s cleaned regularly to prevent bacteria or mold growth which can cause sicknesses.
