Whirlpool washer not draining. Like all household appliances, your washing machine can break down from time to time. Frustrating when you’re trying to wash your clothes, but the washing machine won’t drain.
If your Whirlpool washing machine is clogged up and not draining, here are some potential causes it could be. To make sure you keep yourself safe at all times, it’s important to always switch off the power supply before attempting to make any repairs.
Whirlpool washer not draining
Why can’t my washer drain? To eliminate trapped water in the washtub, let the unit restart after selecting “Drain and Spin.”
Press both “Pause/Cancel” buttons on the machine’s control panel twice to drain any excess water. Then press “Power” and change the cycle option to “Drain and Spin.”
Defective drain pump
From time to time, small objects may become caught in your washer’s drain pump. To remedy the situation, first, you need to unplug the machine and detach the drain pump by unscrewing the screws that hold it in place.
Remove any objects and then put everything back together. If your washing machine still does not drain, but the pump is not obstructed, chances are it would benefit from being replaced.
Faulty drain hose
If you kink a hose or bend it, the drain will become obstructed. Your washer won’t be able to get rid of water if it’s stopped. Straightening the hose may not help much if the problem is caused by an article of clothing that caught on the kink and then clogged it up again.
If this is your situation, you should remove small pieces of lint or whatever lint there is from the crimped section and also pull out whatever clothing got stuck in there.
If these don’t work either, you will have to straighten both ends of the kinked section by hand, so they are flush with each other.
Make sure not to go past eight feet so that your drainage doesn’t interfere with anything that drains higher than 96 inches, such as a showerhead above a bathtub, for example.
LID switch assembly
When the lid is open, the lid switch assembly prevents the washer from spinning. The washer will not drain if the lid switch fails.
Use a multimeter to test each of the lid switches for continuity to determine if it has failed. You should replace any switches with no continuity and then check again to ensure they are all working together.
The water pump belt
There are many older WonderWash models that come with a pump belt that turns the water wheel and is able to remove excess water from an incoming load, as well as clear any jammed clothing.
But if the pump belt snaps or wears out, it will be almost impossible to run a full wash – which could be very damaging in the long run.
The pump belt on this particular pump runs on a pulley system attached above the deck rim, so this could prove tricky to deal with.
A broken or worn-out water pump belt prevents the washer from draining. It should be replaced if excessive wear is evident.
Door Lock issue
The door strike assembly should be inspected. In the event that it is damaged, it needs to be replaced. A damaged striker cannot be repaired.
Coin Trap fault
Some washers have a foreign object trap, also known as a coin trap so that any foreign objects like coins are caught as water flows out of the machine.
However, if the coin trap becomes clogged, it will prevent water from draining out of the washer.
To ensure this does not happen, you should check that this feature is working properly every so often and clean out any debris which might accumulate inside.
Pump or hose clogged
Socks and other clothing items can get stuck in the hoses of a washing machine and end up clogging the pump.
Make sure that you remove the hoses from the pump, then unplug it completely so that no water and soap residue may still be flowing through it. Carefully remove the hoses to check for any obstructions.
